Weekend Recap

Happy Sunday!

I sure hope you’ve had a great weekend, and I hope the weather played nice. My weekend overall was pretty great, and rather relaxing.

Friday night

I was in the mood for Hooters. So that’s where we went.

I then proceeded to order probably the worst meal I could have picked for me. Think fried things. Lots of fried things. Everything was tasty (especially the fried pickles), but it was just overkill and I ended up feeling really nauseous after we left.

You live and learn though. 😉

After a couple quick errands, it was time to pack up for my weekend long run. I was so stoked for my long run because after the run the Fit2Run ambassadors season kickoff party was planned, and I had just received this in the mail and couldn’t wait to try it out.

I woke up bright and early. So bright that the sun wasn’t even out yet. 😉 I was on my way to Weedon Island by 6:30. On the way there I saw lightning, and then I saw more lightning, and by time I was pulling in I knew it wasn’t looking good.

The sunrise was pretty, but there were some ominous clouds rolling in.

The run AND party were cancelled due to the weather. I was so bummed! Stupid rain. And yes, I proceeded to say that every 10 minutes for the next 2 hours.

I did get my Fit2Run ambassador swag bag, so it wasn’t all bad…

I stopped by Starbucks on the way home hoping that would cheer me up. Unfortunately though, they screwed up my drink and I didn’t realize it until I was already back on the road. Sadness!

I did a couple things around the house before waking up the Boy, and then we got ready and headed out to breakfast at First Watch. It was very yummy!

I still really really wanted to run outside; rain was forecasted almost every hour throughout the weekend. I kept checking my Weather Channel app in hopes that something would change. Around late afternoon it looked like I finally had my chance; it showed a rain-free 4-hour block which was perfect because all I needed were 2 hours.

I made my way over to my parents house because I planned to run from there. I asked my dad to come pick me up if it started to rain- I meant it as a joke.

The plan was to run “up” from their house 4.5 miles and turn around. Simple enough.

I had just passed the 4-mile mark; I pulled out my GU and took a quick pic. I thought this looked pretty.

I now think it looks mean.

I didn’t get even a quarter of a mile further before it started to rain. Hard. I’ve never had to deal with that before- I’ve been very lucky up until this point. I saw some trees up ahead that looked like they had a dry spot under them. It wasn’t long before I was soaked. I got my phone out and texted my parents- praying that they hadn’t already left to go dinner.

They were on their way in no time, and I was so so so appreciative.

Since my gym was closing up for the day, I couldn’t get in the second half of my run, so the Boy and I went out for dinner. We opted for Sweet Tomatoes, and it definitely hit the spot.

We spent the remainder of our night watching more than a few Sons of Anarchy episodes.

I woke up to rain. Lots of rain. By 11:30 it slowed to a drizzle, allowing me some time to get in a few errands I needed to run.

I then had a very nice- lazy- afternoon at home. Around 5:00, I felt I was safe to get in long run part 2. I got packed up and made my way to downtown Tampa. It was so nice out, and not too hot. My legs felt stiff and heavy, but I didn’t care, I was outside!

Since my normal Glycerins were still drying off, I decided to pull out the new ones I just ordered. I got these for half the price I paid for my regular ones (with a coupon), and planned to just keep them in my closet until my regular ones wore out. Well…rain happens!

The Boy and I then enjoyed an incredibly tasty black bean burger/mac and cheese dinner. Yeah, this totally hits the spot every time!

And a big shoutout goes to two of the best grandmas in the whole world. Happy Grandparents Day!!!

Happy Saturday!

My Saturday has been great so far!

This morning my friend (Chris) and I went over to Weedon Island to check it out. I previously mentioned that RW featured it as the April Rave Run. It’s about a 25 minute ride from my house and was very easy to get to.

I have a hard time navigating trail maps, so we just kind of set out and started our run. We got in just over 2 miles, and while it was nice and the scenery was very pretty, it just didn’t seem worth it. It boasts miles of trails, but I think those miles (outside of the two we did) would be much closer to wildlife that I don’t want to get close to. 😉 We stuck to boardwalk trails and had a great time. But…I’ll be sticking to downtown Tampa as my go-to.

On the way back, we stopped at Starbucks for coffee and a quick breakfast. I had the spinach, feta, and egg-white wrap. It was tasty, but I think I’ll try something else next time.

Afterwards I did a few things around the house, I then headed back in to Tampa to do some shopping. I went to International Plaza to check out Fit2Run and Gap- didn’t find anything at either… unless you count my freebie running mags.

The highlight of going to International was seeing that not only are we getting an Athleta this summer, we are also getting a Lululemon. OMG! I just about screamed when I saw that. Holy workout clothes, Batman!

I then headed over to Westshore Plaza. Old Navy was having a great sale on activewear, but had nothing in my size. Sadness! Dick’s Sporting Goods had a great selection of shoes (compared to the Dick’s we have in Brandon). I fell in love with a pair of Brooks Glycerin 12’s! Since I’m about to start a new training cycle I’ve been thinking it’s time for a new pair of shoes. I was not however a fan of the price-tag… 150 bucks!! I decided to walk away so that I could think on it for a bit. I ended up running over to Sports Authority where I found the exact same shoes for 30 BUCKS CHEAPER!!!

Sold! 😉

I’ve also been in the market for a new hat. Neither Dick’s nor Sports Authority had anything I liked. I decided to run over to Feet First before making my way home. They had two hats I really liked. A deep purple Nike hat and a Brooks “Run Happy” hat. I love love loved the color of the Nike one, but the Brooks one looked better on my funny shaped head. Hah!

I also picked up a Carrot Cake Clif Bar while I was there. I’ve been wanting to try that flavor forever, but can never find it anywhere. I used to eat Clif Bars a lot, but I haven’t had one in a couple months and just didn’t seem to care about the flavor or texture of this one.

I was driving down Bayshore on my way home when it hit me… I wanted to run. I was still in my running clothes from this morning, so I went ahead and parked and hopped out for a quick run. It actually ended up being a bit more stair work than running, but it felt great!

I’m really getting excited to start marathon training in just a few short weeks!

When I arrived home, I threw together a smoothie to hold me over until the Boy and I can grab dinner.

What are your plans this weekend?

Boston Marathon Day and a busy start to the week

Good morning and happy Tuesday!

Yesterday was marathon day…Boston Marathon day, that is. It was the 119th anniversary of the event.

I really should have planned my vacation better because I so wanted to be home watching nothing but the live coverage; instead, I had to sneak it in every so often at work…not very easy to do on your first day back from being off for a week and especially not easy when you are training a new hire… 😉

Watching the live coverage, seeing the runners cross the finish line, and just looking at pictures from the race, it’s just so inspiring. One day…

My Monday was all-around pretty good. I always hate how much I drag butt after coming back from vacation, but it wasn’t too bad this time. It was a hectic day though, so the time certainly flew by.

I wanted to get into the office early and didn’t wake up with enough time to allow me to make a smoothie, so I had an avocado for breakfast. Yum! For lunch, I whipped up one of my tasty and delicious salads; today’s included: romaine lettuce, baby spinach, feta cheese, an orange, an apple, cherry tomatoes, croutons, fried onions, and mango salsa.

I keep forgetting about the shrimp I bought for my salads- maybe I should put a reminder on my calendar…

After work, I headed over to the gym and met up with a couple coworkers that were already there. We did a little cardio and then worked our arms.

When I got home, I was bouncing off the walls. I may have had a bit too much coffee today. I was just hoping I’d make it to gym #2 for my run before I crashed from all the sugar… I didn’t. 😦

Neither one of us felt like cooking, so we ordered pizza and a yummy greek salad from Hungry Howie’s.

And, some randomness to end things on…

I have been LOVING the Running Lifestyle podcast! I listened to it first on the cruise, and quickly fell in love. It’s so natural and relatable.

I was reading the April issue of Runner’s World and flipped the page to the Rave Run feature, and was stunned by the beautiful image…. I just about fell off my seat when I realized it’s right in my backyard. How have I not heard about Weedon Island before?!
