Tempo Tuesday, Taco Tuesday, and the Taper begins

Good morning and happy Wednesday!

I have been having a great week! I hope you have too!

Is it weird that the Boy and I totally want to redecorate our living room with a couple of these guys for seating..? 😉

This guy was 190 bucks at Costco! And taller AND heavier than me!

Speaking of crazy things… last I checked, we were in November. C’mon Florida, get it together!

For lunch, I hit up a new-to-me spot, Wayback Burger. I had brought my lunch from home, but by time it rolled around I really just wanted a burger. I felt it was the perfect time to finally try out Wayback.

I went with a “classic” double patty. It was tasty and definitely hit the spot, but it wasn’t terribly special. It was just kind of average.

Don’t worry Fuddruckers, you are safe at number one!

After work, I headed over to Tampa for Tempo Tuesday at Fit2Run. By time I got there, it was dark. It just makes me sleepy!

This was our first training run since Daylight Saving’s, and we were completely in the dark. I was visible to vehicles around because I had a clip-on light, a reflective bracelet, reflective shoes, and a reflective vest, but I still couldn’t see the ground in front of me in many spots. I don’t like that feeling! It may be time to invest in a headlamp.

I had 35 minutes on the schedule. Hello Taper! The initial warm-up didn’t feel so great because my knee had been a bit fussy throughout he day, but the 35-minute tempo session ended up feeling pretty good. And, my pace was a bit faster than normal. Yay!

For dinner, the Boy and I whipped up a little Taco Tuesday feast. Scrambled cheesy eggs, potatoes, and Trader Joe’s soy chorizo in a tortilla with a little green chile sauce. Yum!

I have to give a big shoutout to my running buddy Lisa (the one in black). She leaves this morning for Athens, and will be running her first-ever marathon on Sunday. The ATHENS MARATHON! I know she is going to do great, and I am already so proud of all she has accomplished. Remember what I told you, Lisa. You got this!

Also, a big congrats to Coach Kyle (the one on the far-right above), he just competed in his first-ever half marathon this past weekend, and ran a 1:21. Umm..yeah, you read that right!

Question of the day

Do you have a running coach(es)?

Podcast shoutout, solo run, runner safety, and some favorites

Happy Sunday!

The weekend is already almost over, and it feels like it just got here. No worries though! Mom seems to be slowly getting back to herself which is all that I ask for. Still a long road ahead of us for a full recovery, but she was out of bed more today than she was in it. 🙂

Once the sun started to set last night, I headed out for a run and some much needed ME time. It was so great! I wasn’t setting out to hit a certain number, but knew I wanted more than 3 miles. I was definitely in the zone, and kept telling myself, “we’ll turn around at that light”, “no maybe that next light”, and ended up with 6.31 miles. I was listening to my favorite podcast (The Running Lifestyle show), and just about died at 1:13:30 into episode #73, check it out here– you won’t be sorry. 😉

We spent our Sunday over at my parents house; I didn’t set an alarm this morning as I wanted just one day to sleep in. On our way over we stopped by Wawa to get my favorite 79 cent coffee and some breakfast, and by breakfast I mean food because we each got a wrap that most would consider lunch. I opted for a sriracha chicken wrap.

Not a great pic, but it was good!

I worked on a project for a bit while tending to mom, and then the Boy and I went to the grocery store to get supplies for the upcoming week for us as well as my parents.

For dinner, I made brats on the George Foreman grill, mac and cheese (for mom) and cookies for dessert. And yes, once again the kitchen is not my friend and I forgot to snap a pic.

I got some bad news this evening when I found out the Garth Brooks concert I have a ticket for has been cancelled. Since the Lightning made it to the Stanley Cup Finals, scheduling conflicts have prompted all three concerts this week to be cancelled. I’m a little bummed, but to be perfectly honest I had thought about giving up my ticket to stay home with mom.

Earlier this week my mom was telling me about something she heard on the local news, where a young woman was attacked while out for a run. You can check out the full story here. It happened at a very popular running spot in lakeland- a spot that I have been wanting to try out myself- a spot that is regarded as a nice area. It just goes to show how alert runners (especially female runners) need to be. The girl in this particular instance is very lucky because she was smarter than her attacker and was able to outwit him, but that’s not always the case. Here are some tips I use to stay safe:

  1. Make sure someone knows when you go out for a run and WHERE you are running
  2. If you are running solo, text someone when you are heading out and let them know you will text them when you finish (supply them with an ETA as well)
  3. Run with your phone
  4. Do not leave your keys in your car (carry them on you)
  5. Run during the day in well populated areas
  6. Wear brightly-colored clothing
  7. Check your surroundings and do it frequently
  8. If you must run at night, have your boyfriend accompany you. He doesn’t have to run- he can just be out there walking. 😉
I give two thumbs up to safety!

Question for the day

What tips do you use to stay safe?

Let’s do the Friday Dance, bridal shower planning SOS, and a motorcycle safety PSA

Good morning and happy happy happy Friday!

I am so happy it’s Friday!!

I’m sorry I’ve been MIA the past couple of days. Things have been crazy here lately. I had to take a friend to the airport suuuuuper early the other morning and that just had me walking around like a zombie by the end of the workday, and then I got pulled in to help with some emergency planning of a bridal shower this Saturday.

Yesterday, I sat in a different office than my usual (still in Plant City though), and for that (and a couple other reasons) didn’t make Salad-Pool salad for lunch; instead, a coworker and I ordered a large greek salad to split from Hungry Howie’s. It was tasty but nowhere near as delicious as the greek salad from the Hungry Howie’s by my house. First of all, they cut up all of the pepperchinis. Umm…thank you for taking all of the fun away from me! 😦

After work, I got home and planned on taking a quick shower before heading over to yoga at YouFit. This would have been my first yoga class there, but my mom called and asked if I could come over to help her out with something. I can’t say no to my mom! And…we all kind of know how I get when it comes to group classes/group runs. Yeah. So, I didn’t make it to this week’s Fit2Run Fun Run either. 😦

Any who…

After I helped my mom out she took me out to dinner. I picked Sonic because it’s nice and easy. AND! Much to my surprise, we got there during their shake happy hour. We both made the mistake of ordering larges. Whoops! They were about as tall as we are.

Strawberry cheesecake. Yum! Don't mind the gross whip cream though. Yuck!

I made sure to give this crazy one extra hugs and love.

I’ve been bad about keeping up with our daily practice runs, but I do want to start that up again. He really needs to get out and socialize, and I think that’s a great first step.

So, I mentioned the emergency bridal shower plans I got pulled in to help with… We’ve had this shower planned for awhile now for one of my coworkers. We were going to host it at the house of another coworker who unfortunately has come down with the flu. Her contaminated house is no longer going to be the best option. 😉 She was also in charge of all the food. Since we’re not even sure she’s going to be well enough to make the party, the only other bridesmaid (not me) is having to take care of it all. I handle a lot of the event planning at work, so she asked me to help. I could tell she was really stressed out, so I reassured her and told her not to worry about it.

We’re going to borrow my bosses’ beach house for the day, and make a beach-day of it! How fun does that sound?! I’m keeping things simple, and ordered a sandwich and salad platter from Publix and picked up a few other things at Costco. See. We got this!

Can you tell it's almost beach-bridal shower time?
Can you tell it’s almost beach-bridal shower time?

And, I’m going to now take a moment here and get on top of my soapbox.

Please please please be careful out on the roads! Don’t text and drive. Don’t drink and drive. Don’t drive when you are tired. And please check twice for motorcycles. The Plant City community was struck with tragedy earlier this week when a wrong-way driver collided head-on with a motorcycle. The motorcyclist- after being airlifted to Tampa General- didn’t make it. She was a client of ours and very dear to many of my coworkers and friends.

I’ve been around bikes all my life. And not that I would ever ride without a helmet, but there is just something so freeing about being one with the road and riding against the wind. But, bikes can also be a very scary thing. We need to look out for those around us on the road.

RIP C.A. ❤

Please be safe out there!

And, for some randomness to lighten the mood…

I wouldn’t consider myself a fan of theirs, but boy did this take me back the other day. I was rockin’ out! 😉

Question of the day

We have a few planned already, but do you have any fun bridal shower games to play?
