Training week ten: 2/15 – 2/21

Good morning and happy Tuesday!

I just wrapped up week ten of my training program. Rounding out my training for the Gasparilla Half, and will now be focusing my efforts on training for the Star Wars Dark Side Challenge. I definitely ran into some obstacles this week, and well…I missed a couple training runs.

Training week ten: 2/15 – 2/21

Monday – 5.01 miles. Total steps for day: 16,128

Tuesday- No miles logged. Total steps for day: 1,376

Wednesday- 7.32 miles. Total steps for day: 22,797

Thursday- 1.02 mile warmup; 1.66 miles (minute repeats); 1.01 mile cooldown. Total steps for day: 15,572

Friday- No miles logged. Total steps for day: 9,203

Saturday- 3.02 miles (shakeout run). Total steps for day: 9,468

Sunday- 13.27 miles (Gasparilla Half Marathon); 11:05 pace; 2:26:57 total time . Total steps for day: 28,794

Weekend ReCUP!

Happy Sunday!

I had a GREAT weekend, and I hope you did too! This weekend was one of those where you just feel very fortunate for all that you have and for those that surround you.

There’s lot to catch up on, so let’s get to the ReCUP…

Friday

I was in Ocala all day for work, and left there a little later than I had hoped for, so by time I made it to the (Gasparilla) expo, I had like 10 minutes to browse. Luckily, Mandy was nice enough to pick up my bib and goodies!

I had a very important date, and was not going to be late. Meb and Shalane were in town for the race festivities, and were the guests of honor for a dinner benefitting Moffitt Cancer Center.

As we were standing in line to get Meb’s autograph, I look over and it’s Mr. Bart Yasso! As if I wasn’t already starstruck enough…

Bart and I go way back… to November 2015 when I did his shakeout run and he commented on my Instagram photo. 😉

The dinner itself was quite tasty, and I was in great company, so it made for a pretty remarkable evening.

Saturday

I slept in a bit and then headed over to my parents house to say hi to Smokey and to get in a shakeout run. I opted for 3 miles; I got a bit of a late start, so it was a warmer part of the day. As soon as I got back, I dipped my legs in the nice and cool pool.

I relaxed as much as I could, before our Spaghetti Warehouse dinner reservation. It was an awesome dinner with some great running buddies. The Boy and I split the ultimate feast for two. I always enjoy that option!

Back home, I got Flat Amanda all prepped and ready to go before doing a last minute foam roll session.

Sunday

For not being a Disney race, I felt the race had a very early start time (6:00), but at this time of year the weather can be unpredictable.

I’ll do a full race recap later in the week, but I will say that the corrals were nowhere near as congested as the Gasparilla 5k I did last year.

Going into the race I had a few goals in mind. 1) To have fun and finish with a smile, 2) to run a 2:20, 3) to run a 2:30.

I don’t like to put too much pressure on myself time-wise. Not yet at least. But, I wanted a 2:20, would have been happy with a 2:30, and really needed it to be under 2:45.

It was a great race, and I felt strong throughout the duration of it.

As soon as I finished though my belly started to hurt and cramp up. And, it stayed like that for a few hours. I tried eating breakfast, but it wasn’t the easiest thing to do.

I felt a bit better after I napped, but I couldn’t seem to get comfy. I actually feel like I am more sore after this race than I was my last (full) marathon. Crazy how that works out!

The Gasparilla Half got me to 200 miles for the year.

The Boy and I went out for dinner to celebrate my Beastmode-ness. Smokey Bones nachos, pulled pork sandwich, and warm donuts. I’ll resume all nutrition tomorrow. 😉

Good morning and HAPPY FRIDAY!

Woot! Woot! It’s Friday! AND… Race weekend! And… Date night with Meb and Shalane. Eeeeeh! 🙂

Can you tell I’m excited for the weekend?

I am feeling so much better this week! I still have a bit of a lingering cough; it really only starts to act up almost immediately after I finish running, but I feel fine while running so that’s a plus.

I will be running my first official half marathon this Sunday- the Gasparilla Half. And yes, I have completed two fulls and have never yet raced in a half.

I have a time goal for this weekend. It’s a bit of an ambitious goal, but I have been training smart, so we’ll see. Obviously, my main goal is to go out and have fun. If I can hit this time goal (or somewhere close to it), then that will just be the cherry on top.

I’ve been having some pretty killer runs this week. My pace has increased, and I wasn’t setting out to run faster than I normally do. It just happened. And, it felt good.

I did just over 5 miles on Monday. On Wednesday, I warmed up with 3 miles and then proceeded to do the Fun Run 5k; my splits (for me) were pretty awesome.

I’ll have to work hard to hit my time goal, but these last couple training runs are giving me an added confidence boost. Let’s see if I have it in me…

I didn’t run on Tuesday. Tuesday was the one-year anniversary since we put my big brother Hayman down. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about him, but I know he’s watching over me and I know he’ll be there Sunday making sure I cross that finish line.

This post has been a bit all over the place, but I can’t leave without showing off some eats from the week…

The Boy and I finally had a chance to try out the Stein & Vine. A very nice spot tucked away in a very unassuming shopping plaza. I went with the black bean burger- it was okay. Their tater tots are pretty tasty though. You can get them doctored up a number of ways. We opted for a fried egg on top. Yum!


A coworker and I stopped at Brocato’s for lunch on Wednesday. This place is always hopping, and there is no such thing as a quick bite, but it is good. I couldn’t decide between a cuban sandwich or devil crab. And then I realized, I didn’t have to… They have an awesome lunch special, for $12.99 (yes, that is more than I like to spend for lunch), you get a small sandwich, one (large) devil crab, dessert, chips, and a drink. That’s a really good value to me!
