Weekend ReCUP!

Happy Sunday! And…happy November!

I can’t believe it is already November. Where did 2015 go? The holidays are going to be here before we know it. I’m a little upset with International Plaza because they put up a Christmas tree and decorations this week BEFORE Halloween. I prefer we wait until after Thanksgiving, but at least let us get past Halloween, am I right…?

Rant over. 😉 I hope everyone had a great weekend! So, let’s get to the ReCUP…

Friday Night

I got to check off another restaurant on the list (you can read about that here and here). We met up with my parents at Tampa Bay Brewing Company for dinner and drinks. I was disappointed in their drink selection. For being Tampa Bay BREWING Company, I was expecting more than just 12 brews on the menu. I’m trying to expand my horizons, and while none of the brews were jumping out at me, I decided to order a “sampler tray” of 3 to try out.

I’m not a big beer drinker, or a beer drinker at all really, so I didn’t care for them. The one on the far left was my “favorite”, and by that, I mean it was the one I left the least of. 😉 But, their root beer is DELICIOUS!

We started with a pretzel appetizer.

The meatloaf, shepherd’s pie, and “bomb” burger all came highly recommended. Mom and dad shared the first two, I ordered the “bomb”, and the Boy just stuck with a regular burger.

The “bomb” burger comes encased in a pizza dough bun. It was quite tasty, but I wouldn’t order it again.

The meatloaf and shepherd’s pie however could definitely make a reoccurrence.

I was up bright and early. And… I say “bright” loosely, as it wasn’t bright at all. Kayla and I were set to run a 5k for Generations on the Go in Trinity. It was a lot of fun, and a larger race than I was expecting.

It wasn’t a great race for me though. I’m not really sure what happened, but I just kind of struggled through the entire thing. My finish time sucked, and I really expected more of myself, but there’s always next time. I guess it could have been the large cup of coffee I had less than a hour to start time… Whoops!

Also! I don’t know how, but I somehow started and paused my watch immediately when crossing the start line…and didn’t realize it until I was at least half a mile in. So frustrating!

But, at least I finished.

On the way back home, we stopped by the mall to grab a quick bite to eat. I opted for an acai bowl from the Fit2Run smoothie stand. It was just what I needed!

A bit later, I met up with mom for some errands and Starbucks. The new toasted graham latte is very yummy!

The Boy and I opted to spend our Halloween evening at my parents house passing out candy. But first, we ordered pizza and salad…

And then enjoyed seeing all of the little kids in costume. My favorite of the night was a kid dressed up as the mascot from Little Caesar’s. It was so good! And, I did not take a picture because I feel that would have been weird. 😉 So instead, I’ll show off Smokey’s costume…

The trick-or-treaters died down pretty early, so we headed back home so I could get packed up and in bed. Since I had the 5k, I pushed my long run (20 miles) to Sunday morning.

I was in bed by 10. That never happens, and it was so so so nice! However…

I could not for the life of me get out of bed this morning. I had two alarms going off, and there was just no budging. I’m not happy about it, but I stayed in bed. I decided I would just run later on in the day.

The Boy and I were super lazy all day, and watched “The Office” all day. It was awesome! Around lunchtime, I started getting really antsy. I wanted to run!

It was too hot though, so I settled on leaving the house around 4:00.

I’ve been doing my training runs lately with a nice regimen of GU packets (about every 4 miles). But today, I decided to try out the “5 before” statement on the back of the packet. It doesn’t matter what kind of run/distance it is, I don’t start feeling good until around mile 4, so I figured what could it hurt.

It actually worked out really well! I opened the packet when I was about 5 minutes out from the parking lot, and the first few miles felt great. I felt strong the entire time!

The plan was to park at Ballast Point Park, run down to the opposite end of Bayshore (about 4.5 miles away), head back to ballast Point Park, and then repeat- with an extra mile made up at the end.

I knew it was going to be dark for the second half of my run. I feel safe on Bayshore, so it didn’t bother me. However, with Daylight Savings, the automatic street lights didn’t get the memo. Half of the lights were out, and I couldn’t see. That made me not feel safe. I stopped at just under 10, and will finish up my mileage tomorrow.

Back home, I put on my compression sleeves, foam rolled, then elevated my legs, and put some ice on my knees.

Have a great night! I’m off to bed! 🙂

Weekend ReCUP!

Happy Sunday!

I hope you’ve been having a great weekend! Mine has been very good- even if it went by a bit too fast.

Let’s get to the ReCUP…

Weekend ReCUP

For lunch I had steamed veggies and brown rice with a giant Polar Pop of Nuun! Yes, my new favorite thing is to get a 59 cent Polar Pop, fill it with nothing by ice and water and drop in a Nuun tablet. It is 44 ounces of pure heaven! The Boy thinks I’m crazy for getting so excited over a cup of ice, but I don’t care. It’s delicious!

For dinner, we went to Crazy Cafe. I know, big surprise! 😉

We then spent a relaxing night at home so that I could prep and pack for my Saturday long run. I’m curious, does anyone else have a pretty intense pre-longrun routine?

It was an early morning. I had plans to meet Cydney and Lisa from the training group in Hyde Park at 6:00. While I wasn’t the biggest fan of the time, I was pretty excited to wake up to this…

We had 15 miles on the schedule. It was a beautiful day and a beautiful run.

I really really enjoyed having some good company for those long miles, and will definitely be running with these girls again.

After we finished I was in need of all the coffee. YES! All of it! We stopped at Starbucks for coffee and eats.

Back home, I immediately put on an Icy Hot knee sleeve and my compression sleeves and settled into Legs Up the Wall. And yes, I know I have style.

Of course, I put all of this on before realizing that I wanted a Polar Pop. So to the gas station I went. 😉

This is kind of weird (especially for me), but Nuun was about the only thing that sounded good after the run. My Starbucks wrap wasn’t doing it for me; I didn’t even finish the entire thing. Back home, I tried a few other things but nothing sounded good until I remembered I had some hard-boiled eggs prepared. That with a little Sriracha and I was good to go. It really is a yummy snack!

For dinner, the Boy and I met up with my parents, Bubba, and Megan at the Spaghetti Warehouse. The Boy and I opted to split the Ultimate Feast for Two. It was very yummy and just what I needed.

There was also sangria. And no I didn’t drink the entire carafe. Promise!

We stopped by Kohl’s on the way home and then spent the remainder of our night watching Sons of Anarchy.

I had a brunch date with my good friend Kat. We met up at Mimi’s cafe, where I thoroughly enjoyed some lemon poppyseed pancakes.

Later in the afternoon, I met mom at the mall for some light shopping. I found a couple super deals on shirts. For the Boy. Why don’t I ever find 5 dollar work shirts for me?!

For lunch, we went to Wow That’s Fresh! I’m telling you, this place is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

After a nice workout at the gym, we ran by Target to grab a few supplies for the work week. The remainder of my night was spent relaxing and catching up on some projects.

Weekend Recap

Happy Sunday!

I have had a great weekend! I hope yours has been just as awesome!

I had a late liquid lunch- Watermelon Whip from Xtreme Juice- and it was delicious!

By time I got home though, I was ready for dinner. I had a super early morning to prepare for, so the Boy and I kept it simple and ordered pizza and spent a nice night in.

We decided to try out Munchies; it’s right by the house, but we always seem to stick with our staples. The pizza was pretty good (not great), and the garlic knots and wings were disappointing.

We spent the remainder of the night watching episodes of Penn & Teller: Fool Us before my 11:00 bedtime.

The alarm went off at 5:15. That is so early! I was up and out the door by 6:00.

The Fit2Run training group meets at Upper Tampa Bay Trail early on Saturdays for the groups long runs (during the “cooler” months of the year, long runs are done near downtown Tampa where I am used to running).

I had 9 miles on the schedule, and was a bit nervous and anxious with this being my first run out at Upper Tampa Bay Trail. I knew they had water and was told they had bathrooms (never did see them…unless you count the outdoors), but how do you plan for you if you’ve never been out there…?

Lately I have been doing runs and just carrying my key (in-hand if 3 or 4 miles) or in my SPI-like running belt. For this run, I opted to strap on my Camelbak hydration waist pack.

I’m really not a big fan of this thing, but have struggled finding a suitable alternative. First world problems.

Back to the run…

The trail was so beautiful. The weather was perfect.

And, I felt GREAT and strong.

On the way home I stopped at Wawa for coffee, and the cashier made my day and really made me feel like an official runner.

(After he noticed my Garmin and Jawbone Up) Cashier: “So you run a lot?”

Me: “Yeah”

Cashier: “What do you run?” Like 5k’s or 10k’s or…?”

Me: “Marathon(s)”

Cashier: “What’s your longest? Like 10k? 5k?”

Me: “I’ve done a marathon.”

Cashier: “How many is that?”

Me: “26.2 miles”

Cashier: “And you ran that? You didn’t bike it?”

Me: “Yeah, I ran it”

You really had to be there! It was pretty good. 😉

I finished my coffee in-between some foam rolling, and then put on my FAVORITE iTunes radio station: Florence & The Machine station and hopped in the shower. I really love Florence!

I was running out of time but pretty desperately needed a pedicure, so I decided to try a place right by the house. Who knew such a gem was 3 minutes from me?! I have a new go-to, that’s for sure! And pretty painted toes…

I spent most of my afternoon at a coworkers baby shower. I had never been to one before… I’m more of a dog person. Hah!

It was fun, and mama and papa-to-be definitely got a ton of stuff for their baby boy who is due in just under 4 weeks. 🙂

The shower was right down the road from my parents house, so I went over to say hi. Mom and I decided to go out to the mall together.

Ever since I really started running late 2013 my feet have become very picky with their footwear. The majority of my shoes I don’t wear because I almost can’t. So when it comes to buying new shoes, I go for comfort. And luckily for me, Crocs was having a pretty kick-butt sale.

Don’t make fun of me! 😉

We invited dad and the Boy to meet us for a late dinner at Ruby Tuesday. I guess I hadn’t eaten enough after my morning run because by time we got to the restaurant I wanted everything on the menu. I opted for ribs with mac and cheese and the salad bar. Super healthy, I know.

I didn’t allow myself to sleep in, and woke up around 9. I had a couple things I needed to do for work and a project I told my mom I would help her with.

And the Boy was sweet enough to make me breakfast. Pancakes and cheesy eggs! Yes!

[insert picture I should have taken here]

The Boy and I went to the gym, and I had a pretty awesome leg-day. I even incorporated some of my training group drills, and then finished with some foam rolling. Yeah, I was that super cool girl in the corner rolling around on the floor. 😉

For dinner we had our new-fave, black bean burger with an egg on top. We also had some udon noodle soup on the side. It was a weird combo, but it was delicious.

And now, I hear Netflix calling…
